Privacy
Gesturely reads sign language from a camera. That is a serious thing to ask of someone, so here is exactly what happens to it, in plain words.
- Your video is never stored. In live chats, practice, transcribing, or contributing, the camera is used only in the moment to read your signs, then discarded — nothing is written to our disks or the cloud.
- We read your skeleton, not your image. Recognition works from a moving stick-figure of points marking where your hands, arms, and body are — no face, no background, nothing that pictures or identifies you.
- The skeleton is all the app needs. Signs are recognized from how those points move, so the footage is dropped the instant the points are read.
- Only words go to the AI — never video. Turning your signs into sentences uses only the recognized text, which is sent to an AI language model. Your actual video is never sent to that model or shared with any third party.
- No account, no profile, no tracking. You don’t sign in, and nothing is tied to your identity.
- Nothing either of you says is kept. Captions and spoken replies live on screen and are gone when you leave. The one exception is the lines you choose to save on the Face to Face tab: those are written to this browser only, never sent anywhere, and you can delete them from the same screen.
- Contributing is skeleton-only, by choice. If you share an example to improve recognition, we save just the labeled motion points — never your video.
What we keep
Practice progress, if you choose to save it. That is stored against a short code you keep yourself — not an account, not an email, and not anything that identifies you. Lose the code and the progress is gone, which is the trade we took in order not to hold your details.
On a kiosk at a service counter, nothing a visitor signs or says is kept at all. The conversation is cleared between visitors.

If you are evaluating Gesturely for a library, clinic, pharmacy or school and need something more formal than this page, ask us — we would rather answer than have you guess.
